Selecting the Right Location for a Store
Whether you intend to open a clothing shop or a general retail store, you need to pick the best location for it. The location can be a great factor affecting the success of your business. A good location can turn a business into a success while a poor one can lead to failure.
Calculate how much money you can afford to spend on your location each month. Be careful that you do not overestimate your resources. In fact, it would be a better move if you would underestimate your budget since you can always choose to move to a better location once you have got the extra money for it. But an expensive location, on the other hand, can drain much needed resources from your total business expenses.
Figure out whether you would like to buy or lease the property. If you have enough of the finances and your business has already been established, then buying can be the best choice. However, if your business is new and you do not have enough money to purchase property, then leasing or renting is the better option.
Choose an area that can best suit the type of business you have. So if you will be opening a bar, for example, do not choose a location near a church or a school since that can affect the success of your business. For a retail store, choose a place that has a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Make sure that the place you select can be readily accessible to customers whether they will be travelling on foot or driving a vehicle.
Contact a real estate agent to help you look for other possible locations for your business. Inform him of what your requirements are, so that he would be able to select suitable areas. Once you have found a few possible sites, make sure that you will inspect each of the properties. You can bring your designer or architect along with you during the inspections so that you can get his input on the look of each place. Select the location that can best meet the needs of your business while sticking to your budget.
